I obviously can't comment on individual cases, and I'm not sure quite what problem Helen above had with Amazon. My point about Amazon Marketplace is that it makes a very clear and straightforward alternative when it comes to catalogue listed items - books, CDs, DVDs and the like, as these items are already in the Amazon listing. You want to sell a copy of 'Rumours' by Fleetwood Mac, you simply pop it in and it appears alongside the mint copies from the record company. I used this to fantastic effect flogging off a load of old CDs and books and clearing space on the shelves and had not a single problem, having priced my stuff realistically and described it conservatively (eg I'd list the condition of a CD as 'fair' even I thought it was probably 'good', so nobody was ever disappointed at what they received.

Being on the other end of the deal, as a customer of Marketplace vendors, I've also received almost unfailingly excellent service ... most people just don't want rows or to tick off their customers, it just isn't worth the hassle.

I tried out Amazon and found there was no difference in the two (ebay and amazon). Maybe the writing of this article predated the enactment of Amazon's new A to Z claim policy? With this policy, the buyer can file a claim for not as described, or whatever and receive their money back and get to keep the item as well! Dont sell any expensive items! You may be out some moolah! I called Amazon to argue my case that I should get my items back, and was told in no uncertain terms that I agreed to the new policy by using Amazon.com and that losing your goods will happen
occasionally. Well, I have a problem with that! What if this is a fraud?
Isnt Amazon supporting fraud then?
I found out that the people at Amazon who refund the money are also the ones you argue with?! No overseeing body to look over the shoulders in that office to make sure that a fair deal is happening or balance and protect the seller.
Bad deal!
Please investigate Amazon.com and rethink them as an alternative. I found them to be exactly the same as eBay. No change- exactly the same.

You're right, Marketplace makes an excellent alternative to eBay. I've also found eBid to be a great alternative along with creating your own store through something like ecrater. Unfortunately, none of these are really an eBay killer just yet, so keep your eBay account for the moment.
