Credit rating free

It’s one of the major bugbears of applying for financial products and services … you jump through the various hoops, applying for a loan, mortgage or whatever, and then you get rejected because of a bad credit rating. The really annoying this is that you can’t actually think why your credit rating should have been compromised. There are more reasons than you might think for a dodgy credit rating, but fortunately it’s easy to check what’s gone wrong and you CAN fix it. We’ll show you how to get your credit rating free, without shelling out for expensive ‘debt repair solutions’.

First a bit of pre-emptive action. Don’t, whatever you do, make multiple applications for credit cards or loans. Many of us do this, assuming that if one doesn’t pan out the other will. Very bad idea as this can immediately be flagged up and your credit rating will be hurt. Establish what your credit rating is – you can get a report on your credit rating free from Experian – they are one of the major credit check companies. If there’s anything on that credit report that’s out of date – it could be as simple as one missed payment on a loan years ago. Experian can add notes to your account to that effect.

And to get your credit rating free of collateral damage, ensure your finances are standalone. People’s finances are often wrecked by their partner’s profligacy … it makes far more sense to have the credit card, loan or bank account in one name. You can still have a joint account for expenses. And finally, when you’re in credit trouble, SORT IT OUT! The classic response is to metaphorically pull the covers over our heads. You can sort your credit problems out … so start today. As a start, check out our piece on Setting Up Direct Debits, which is one of the single easiest and most effective ways of ensuring your credit rating is free of blemishes.
